Temple Square Liberty Monument

The Law, Governments, Liberty, The Way

This is video of a monument at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Slabs have various statements of LDS scripture, doctrine and teachings on The Law, Governments, Liberty and The Way (Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ)

Text of the inscriptions on the slabs…

The Law:

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image… Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor server them…
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain…
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land in which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
Thou shalt not kill.
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Thou shalt not steal.
Thou shalt not bear false witness…
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house …thy neighbour’s wife… nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
Exodus 20: 3-17

Governments:

We believe that governments were instituted of God for the benefit of man; and that he holds men accountable for their acts in relation to them, both in making laws and administering them, for the good and safety of society.
We believe that no government can exist in peace except such laws are framed and held inviolate as will secure to each individual the free exercise of conscience, the right and control of property, and the protection of life.
Doctrine & Covenants 134

Let no man break the laws of the land, for he that keepeth the laws of God hath no need to break the laws of the land.
Doctrine & Covenants 58

We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
12th Article of Faith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Liberty:

The Constitution of the United States is a glorious standard… founded in the wisdom of God… established… by the hands of wise men… raised up unto this very purpose.
It is to all those who are privileged with the sweets of liberty like the cooling shades and refreshing waters of a great rock in a thirsty and weary land.
Joseph Smith

The laws and constitution of the people… should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh according to just and holy principles; That every man may act… according to the moral agency… given unto him, that every man may be accountable for his own sins in the day of judgment.
Doctrine & Covenants 101

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, the is liberty.
2 Corinthians 3:17

The Way:

I am the way the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all they heart, and with all the soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
Matthew 22: 37-39

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Matthew 7:12

Give diligent heed to the words of eternal life. For you shall live by every word that proceedeth forth from the mouth of God.
Doctrine & Covenants 84
