As I read through Jeremy's article I was reminded of two talks given by Latter-day Prophets, one is "The False Gods We Worship" by Spencer W. Kimball. In this article President Kimball said: "We are a warlike people, easily distracted from our assignment of preparing for the coming of the Lord. When enemies rise up, we commit vast resources to the fabrication of gods of stone and steel—ships, planes, missiles, fortifications—and depend on them for protection and deliverance. When threatened, we become anti-enemy instead of pro-kingdom of God; we train a man in the art of war and call him a patriot, thus, in the manner of Satan’s counterfeit of true patriotism, perverting the Savior’s teaching: 'Love your enemies, bless them...'" The second talk is "United States Foreign Policy" by Ezra Taft Benson. Among many wonderful statements, he said: "Senator Robert A. Taft clearly explained our traditional foreign policy:
Our traditional policy of neutrality and non-interference with other nations was based on the principle |

Those of us who have already awakened to a sense of our awful situation typically feel a similar urge to be actively involved in doing something about it. It's not enough just to learn about the principles of freedom and the US Constitution and recognize that we have strayed far from those principles. This fight for freedom is not a new one; it has been going on for thousands of years. This battle is a continuation of the war that began in heaven between good and evil.
1. We must be righteous and moral and live all of the gospel principles. We must look to God as our Lawgiver and the source of our liberty. 2. We must learn the principles of the Constitution and then abide by its precepts, so that we can defend it. 3. We must become involved in civic affairs and seek after good, wise, and honest leaders. 4. We must be wisely informed and make our influence felt by our vote, our letters, and our advice. |

Another interesting article on LewRockwell.com, regarding Mormons, this week. The website titles this one "Open Letter to Mormons Regarding Ron Paul, Part II: The Book of Mormon Has a Dim View of Taxation." This article was written by Chris Reeve, LDS libertarian. I am going to post the entire text of his article here. This is a great example of how we can apply the Book of Mormon in the political realm: Some in the religious community view spiritual texts most pertinent to the spiritual realm rather than the social, emotional, or political (I am among the number). Some may even oppose their application to non-religious applications. I would not consider myself one of these individuals. My reasoning for "secular" use of spiritual texts goes like this: God has given us a brain to at least nominally comprehend spirituality, especially spiritual writings, like the Bible, Tao Te Ching, etc. Hence, it is wholly appropriate, or at least consistent, to use the God-given rational faculty to comprehend and interpret spiritual writings. Of course the assumption here is that the rational faculty can be used in many different valid ways to interpret scripture. Being a Mormon and a recent libertarian convert, I |

It seems that shooting rampages are becoming all too common these days. Fortunately in some of these situations many lives were saved because of brave gun carriers. In a recent Colorado shooting at the New Life Church, a security guard Jeanne Assam was able to kill the shooter, preventing further loss of life. Events such as this make me thankful that the Founding Fathers included an amendment in the US Constitution to preserve our god-given right to defend ourselves with guns and other weapons. In the words of W. Cleon Skousen: "The Founders left gun control under the exclusive jurisdiction of the State. They felt it was extremely dangerous to allow the Federal Government to "infringe" on the right to bear arms even in the slightest degree." I won't be suprised to see how many of the recent shootings are linked to antidepressant use. |

CNN issued a challenge to grassroots Ron Paul supporters asking them to submit a 30-second commercial to be aired during the Republican Debate on Wednesday 11/28/07. Our own LDS Conservative, Mike, created a powerful commercial using part of the speech from Ron Paul's visit to Utah earlier this year (Mike also did the production on the recent Joel Skousen / Jack Monnett DVD). This submission didn't air on the CNN/Youtube debate, though the Ron Paul campaign did highlight it on the Ron Paul Ad Competition page. Here it is: Watch some of the other Ron Paul ad submissions |

To my fellow Latter-day Saint brothers and sisters, this letter is a pleading with each of you to consider supporting Congressman Ron Paul in his candidacy for President of these united States of America. Congressman Paul is THE only candidate, from either of the two major political parties, that has shown he understands the proper role of government and that he understands and adheres to the principles written in our Constitution. All the other Republican and Democratic candidates reveal themselves as lusting for power, to be in various stages of corruption, using weasel words with coached speeches and phrases intended to deceive a dumbed-down American public. This deception is facilitated by a mainstream press that has become dominated by a corporate establishment that has a globalist agenda. This agenda requires reduced national sovereignty. All these other candidates approve of this agenda. The only things that stand between this agenda and it's ultimate goal of centralized global governance are: |

The Blog is back! In the past I was using my blog to post various LDS freedom related news articles. The reason I took down my blog is because I am trying to limit the amount of my own personal opinions on this site (except on the forum) and stick to posting articles and quotes from prophets and prominent LDS political experts. I have decided now to restart this blog. I am not going to be posting information about every little thing that happens in this country, but rather, I'll write about and post articles that are specifically related to Latter-day Saints and Freedom OR I'll add an LDS interpretation to specific important current events. I enjoy examining today's issues versus the principles taught by the prophets and others. |
